291-colorado-hr-high-rye-bourbon-whiskey-barrel-proof-750ml
291 Colorado HR High Rye Bourbon Whiskey Barrel Proof 750ml

291 HR is a high-rye Colorado bourbon whiskey from Distillery 291 in Colorado Springs, bottled at barrel proof, here 128.2 proof (64.1% ABV).

It is the distillery's favourite mistake: 291's High Rye Colorado Bourbon was first created by accident when a double dose of rye went into the bourbon recipe. After aging, the result was a delicious, complex bourbon that strikes a balance between 291's Colorado Bourbon Whiskey and its Colorado Whiskey. It is made from a mash of corn, malted rye and malted barley and, like 291's other whiskeys, finished with toasted Aspen wood staves for a uniquely Western character.

The high-rye mash brings spice and fruitiness to round out the vanilla and oak, with caramel and the distinctive Aspen character on the nose.

Bold and uncut, it is a memorable gift for bourbon lovers looking for something beyond Kentucky.

Sip it neat, then add water to taste.

Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.

High-rye bourbons use more rye in the mash than a traditional recipe, which brings extra pepper, baking spice and fruit to the sweetness of the corn.

Tasting Notes

Nose: High-rye spice, caramel, vanilla and Aspen wood.

Palate: Spice and fruit around vanilla and oak.

Strength: Barrel proof, 128.2.

Specifications

Producer: Distillery 291

Style: High Rye Bourbon Whiskey, Barrel Proof

Mash Bill: Corn, malted rye, malted barley

Proof / ABV: 128.2 proof (64.1% ABV)

Cask / Finish: Finished with toasted Aspen staves

Region: Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States

Size: 750ml

How to Enjoy It

Sip it neat, then with a little water.
