After a few small batches of its Texas Rum, it refilled the same casks with select Texas Single Malt, marrying two favourites into a unique Texas whisky.

The nose brings caramelised sugar, cherry cola, banana bread, sassafras, pistachio, peanut brittle, apple skins and peach cobbler. The taste is big and full-bodied, with tropical fruit, molasses, sweet black tea and gingerbread, and the finish is dry and long, with prickly cinnamon, burnt sugar and heavy oak.

A bold Texas original, it makes a fine gift for adventurous whisky lovers.

Sip it neat, then add a little water to taste.

American whiskey covers a wide range of styles, from bourbon and rye to single malts and light whiskeys, and independent blenders and small producers have made it one of the most exciting categories in spirits.

Texas single malt is made from 100% malted barley, and the Texas heat speeds the interaction between spirit and wood.

Cask strength means the whisky is bottled without dilution, straight from the cask, so a few drops of water can open it up.

A cask finish moves a matured whisky into a second cask for a further period, layering new flavours over the original spirit.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Caramelised sugar, cherry cola, banana bread and peach cobbler.

Palate: Tropical fruit, molasses, black tea and gingerbread.

Finish: Dry and long, cinnamon, burnt sugar and oak.

Specifications

Producer: Balcones Distilling

Style: Texas Single Malt Whisky, rum cask finished, cask strength

Proof / ABV: 124 proof (62% ABV)

Cask / Finish: Finished in Balcones Texas rum casks

Region: Waco, Texas, United States

Size: 750ml

How to Enjoy It

Sip it neat, then add water to taste.
