Candela, meaning "on fire" in Spanish slang, was created in 2016 by founder Alejandro Russo after he was captivated by mamajuana at a hotel bar in the Dominican Republic. Unlike homemade versions that can be harsh or inconsistent, Candela is professionally distilled and aged for a smooth, sophisticated spiced rum.

A selection of herbs and bark lends smooth, complex spice, with honey for a hint of sweetness and warm vanilla over a smooth rum base.

The etched bottle makes it a unique gift.

Aged rum is one of the most diverse spirits in the world, shaped by the sugarcane, the still and the warm climates where it matures, which speed up the interaction between spirit and wood.

Mamajuana traditionally steeps rum with tree bark and herbs.

Serve it chilled as a shot or over ice.

It pairs with Caribbean dishes, plantains and grilled meats.

Try it with ginger beer and lime for a spicy highball.

Mix it with cola for an easy party drink.

It is a fun gift for travelers who love the Dominican Republic.

Its lower proof makes it easy to sip.

It adds warm spice to holiday punches.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Warm spice, herbs, honey.

Palate: Smooth rum, bark, vanilla.

Finish: Gentle sweetness and spice.

Specifications

Brand: Candela

Style: Mamajuana botanical rum

Botanicals: Herbs, bark, honey

Proof / ABV: 60 proof (30% ABV)

Origin: Dominican Republic

Size: 750ml

How to Enjoy It

Sip it neat or on the rocks, or use it in a spiced rum cocktail or with ginger beer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is mamajuana?
The Dominican Republic's traditional botanical spiced rum.

What does Candela mean?
On fire, in Spanish slang.

How does it taste?
Smooth spice, herbs and bark with a hint of honey.

Explore more in our Rum collection.
