Chapter Five, Hound, is dressed in a striking black and white illustration of a wild, shaggy hound that wraps around the label and the box. Mannochmore, near Elgin, is rarely bottled as a single malt by its owners, which makes independent single casks like this one a welcome chance to taste it.

The nose brings ripe pear, honeydew melon and fine oak, with honey and an herb-garden freshness. On the palate, mango and pear come forward, followed by oak, and the finish is long-lasting. A few drops of water soften the oak and bring out a bright tropical fruit character with fresh bread and a buttery richness.

The illustrated bottle and box make it a beautiful gift and a fine addition to a collection of independent bottlings.

Taste it neat first, then add a little water to watch the tropical fruit open up.

Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Ripe pear, honeydew melon, honey, herbs and fine oak.

Palate: Mango, pear and oak.

Finish: Long-lasting; water brings tropical fruit, fresh bread and butter.

Specifications

Producer: Fable Whisky (independent bottler)

Style: Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, single cask

Expression / Batch: Chapter Five: Hound

Age: 12 years

Proof / ABV: 111.6 proof (55.8% ABV), cask strength

Cask / Finish: Single cask

Region: Speyside, Scotland (Mannochmore distillery)

Size: 700ml

How to Enjoy It

Serve it neat with a jug of water on the side.
