For 5 Wood, Kaiyō's master blender drew on a deep understanding of cask types, maturation techniques and blending to bring together the characteristics of five Japanese woods, using Japanese new-make spirit aged exclusively by Kaiyō. The label also lists Pedro Ximénez, ex-bourbon, French oak, mizunara and oloroso casks in the blend. The result is a whisky of balance and uniqueness.

This bottling emphasizes a silkier, more delicate mouthfeel, letting the subtle incense and forest notes of the Japanese woods shine.

The bold orange-and-wood label makes it a striking gift.

Japanese whisky has earned a worldwide reputation for balance and precision, and limited releases from its historic distilleries are among the most sought-after bottles for collectors.

Mizunara is a rare Japanese oak prized for incense-like aromas.

Sakura is Japanese cherry wood.

Hinoki is Japanese cypress, known for its fresh scent.

Sugi is Japanese cedar.

Kuri is Japanese chestnut.

Serve it neat in a Glencairn glass.

A few drops of water open up the aromas.

Try it in a classic Japanese Highball with sparkling water.

It is a thoughtful gift for Japanese whisky fans.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Incense, forest woods.

Palate: Silky and delicate.

Wood: Five Japanese woods.

Specifications

Brand: Kaiyō Whisky

Collection: The Ariake Wood Collection

Woods: Mizunara, sakura, hinoki, sugi, kuri

Bottling: Un-chillfiltered

Proof / ABV: 88 proof (44% ABV)

Region: Japan

Size: 750ml

How to Enjoy It

Sip it neat or with a few drops of water, or in a Japanese-style Highball.
