kavalan-ex-bourbon-oak-single-malt-whisky-750ml
Kavalan Ex-Bourbon Oak Single Malt Whisky 750ml

Kavalan Ex-Bourbon Oak is a Taiwanese single malt matured in first-fill American oak ex-bourbon casks. It is the cask-strength Kavalan Solist ex-Bourbon brought down to 46% ABV with Kavalan's pure spring water.

Kavalan, in Yilan County in north-eastern Taiwan, has become one of the most awarded whisky makers in the world. Taiwan's warm, humid climate accelerates maturation, so the bourbon casks bring rich vanilla and tropical fruit to the spirit in a fraction of the time it would take in Scotland.

Pale golden in colour, it offers clean, fresh tropical fruitiness with vanilla, coconut and spices, along with banana and nutmeg. The palate has a soft, well-balanced natural sweetness, with vanilla, oak spices, creamy barley and coconut, round and complex with silky smoothness, and the finish brings exotic spices.

The tall bottle makes it a fine gift for lovers of fruity, vanilla-rich whisky.

Enjoy it neat or with a drop of water.

Kavalan's distillery sits between the mountains and the Pacific, drawing pure spring water from the Snow Mountain range, and its whiskies have collected top honours at international competitions since the distillery opened in 2005. Ex-bourbon casks are the classic choice for showing a distillery's own character, and here they let Kavalan's bright, fruity spirit shine.

Taiwan's subtropical heat means each year in the cask counts for far more than in Scotland, with a much larger share evaporating as the angels' share, so the whisky gains depth and smoothness at a remarkable pace.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Tropical fruit, vanilla, coconut, banana and spice.

Palate: Natural sweetness, vanilla, oak spice and creamy barley.

Finish: Exotic spices.

Specifications

Producer: Kavalan

Style: Taiwanese Single Malt Whisky

Expression / Batch: Ex-Bourbon Oak

Proof / ABV: 92 proof (46% ABV)

Cask / Finish: First-fill American oak ex-bourbon casks

Region: Yilan, Taiwan

Size: 750ml

How to Enjoy It

Serve it neat or with a drop of water.
