malpaso-raicilla-agave-spirit-750ml
Malpaso Raicilla Agave Spirit 750ml

Malpaso Raicilla is a small-batch agave spirit from Jalisco, crafted from sustainably harvested Maximiliana agaves and bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).

Raicilla is one of Mexico's lesser-known agave traditions, a rustic and expressive category distinct from both tequila and mezcal. Malpaso follows traditional methods: the agaves are roasted in adobe ovens and the spirit is double distilled in copper stills.

The flavour is bright, with citrus, stone fruit and a hint of vanilla. It is agave-forward, sweet and herbaceous, with a more delicate smokiness than many mezcals.

For the adventurous agave drinker, it makes a distinctive gift.

Sip it neat from a copita or a small glass.

Raicilla comes from Jalisco, the same state as tequila, but it is made from different agave species and with its own traditional methods. Historically it has been produced in two regional styles, one from the mountains of the Sierra Occidental and one from the coast.

Agave Maximiliana is one of the classic raicilla agaves, giving a spirit that is often floral, fruity and mineral rather than heavily smoky.

Roasting in an adobe oven cooks the agave hearts slowly, caramelising their natural sugars and adding a gentle roasted note.

Double distillation in copper stills refines the spirit while keeping its bright agave character, and small-batch production lets each run keep its own personality.

Served neat at room temperature, raicilla reveals its aromas best, and a slice of orange alongside complements its citrus notes.

Tasting Notes

Fruit: Citrus and stone fruit.

Character: Agave-forward, sweet and herbaceous.

Smoke: Delicate, lighter than many mezcals.

Specifications

Producer: Malpaso

Style: Raicilla (agave spirit)

Agave: Maximiliana, sustainably harvested

Proof / ABV: 90 proof (45% ABV)

Region: Jalisco, Mexico

Size: 750ml

How to Enjoy It

Sip it neat from a copita.
