Beam Distilling Co., aged a full seven years and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).

The expression pays homage to Basil Hayden Sr., the original "Old Grand-Dad" of American whiskey. Each year's release is produced from a single distillation season in accordance with the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, meaning it is made by one distiller at one distillery and aged under U.S. government supervision. While the standard bonded Old Grand-Dad carries no age statement, this edition elevates the brand's classic high-rye recipe with a seven-year age statement. The annual series was introduced in 2025.

Full-bodied, with sweet, velvety caramel flavors and notes of charred oak and vanilla. Compared with its younger sibling, a more robust oak note comes through with barrel char, smoke and spice, plus fruit and a hint of roasted peanut.

The vintage orange label makes it a classic gift for bourbon fans.

Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.

Bottled-in-Bond whiskey must be at least four years old.

High-rye bourbons carry more spice than wheated styles.

A few drops of water open up the oak and caramel.

It stands up well in a Whiskey Sour.

Collectors seek out each annual release.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Caramel, vanilla, charred oak.

Palate: Velvety caramel, fruit, spice.

Finish: Robust oak, barrel char, roasted peanut.

Specifications

Producer: James B.
