The Orphan Barrel team found several overlooked casks there, and the label tells the legend of the Scottish kelpie, a shape-shifting water horse that symbolises both water and Scotland's long history of growing barley.

The aroma brings tangerine, pear, sweet confectionery and dried herbs, with tasting notes of vanilla, red apple and mint. The finish brings gingersnap cookies, spiced Christmas fruitcake and tannic oak.

The richly illustrated label makes it a superb gift for collectors of Orphan Barrel releases.

Orphan Barrel recommends serving it neat or on the rocks.

Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.

European oak is more porous and tannic than American oak, giving whisky dried fruit, spice and a deeper colour. Orphan Barrel releases are limited, and each tells its story through richly illustrated labels, which has made the series a favourite with collectors who display the bottles side by side.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Tangerine, pear, sweet confectionery and dried herbs.

Palate: Vanilla, red apple and mint.

Finish: Gingersnap, spiced fruitcake and oak.

Specifications

Producer: Orphan Barrel (Teaninich distillery)

Style: Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Expression / Batch: Castle's Curse

Age: 14 years

Proof / ABV: 94.8 proof (47.4% ABV)

Cask / Finish: European oak

Region: Highlands, Scotland

Size: 750ml

How to Enjoy It

Serve it neat or on the rocks.
