Its brewery collaboration program begins with a jointly developed brew, which R6 distills into whiskey and matures in deliberately selected barrels.

For this one-time release with The Lost Abbey, the rye whiskey was finished in barrels that had held wheat and single malt whiskeys. Soft apple and honey warm up to a fresh spice of rye and wheat, balancing fruit and sweetness against the grain's firmer character.

The bottle carries both the R6 and The Lost Abbey names, a fun gift for craft beer fans who enjoy whiskey.

American rye whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51% rye and aged in new charred oak, giving it a spicier, drier character than bourbon, with notes of pepper, herbs and baking spice.

Rye whiskey brings a peppery spice that pairs naturally with the softer sweetness of wheat and malt.

Finishing a whiskey in barrels that held another whiskey layers in that whiskey's character without masking the base spirit.

Brewery and distillery collaborations start from beer-style washes, so the whiskey often shows extra fruit and malt.

Tasting Notes

Opening: Soft apple and honey.

Palate: Fresh rye and wheat spice.

Balance: Fruit and sweetness against firm grain.

Specifications

Producer: R6 Distillery, El Segundo, California

Collaboration: The Lost Abbey Brewing Company

Style: Rye whiskey, limited release

Finish: Wheat and single malt whiskey barrels

Proof / ABV: 86 proof (43% ABV)

Region: California, USA

Size: 750ml

How to Enjoy It

Sip it neat or on the rocks, or stir it into a Manhattan.
