While its 95% rye recipe is the backbone of many ryes, this bottled-in-bond deliberately zags: a 51% rye, 49% malted barley grain bill created to showcase what high barley content can do inside a rye. It scored 90 points from Whisky Advocate.

As a bottled-in-bond whiskey, it comes from one distilling season, aged in a bonded warehouse and bottled at exactly 100 proof. The heavy malted barley brings a rounder, bready sweetness alongside rye spice.

The vintage-style label makes it a handsome gift.

American rye whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51% rye and aged in new charred oak, giving it a spicier, drier character than bourbon, with notes of pepper, herbs and baking spice.

Malted barley adds bready, cereal sweetness that softens the rye's peppery spice.

Bottled-in-bond rules guarantee a single season's spirit, at least four years old, at 100 proof.

Lawrenceburg, Indiana, has been home to whiskey production since the 1800s.

A splash of water brings out the malt and honey notes.

It makes a rich, balanced Manhattan.

Tasting Notes

Grain: 51% rye, 49% malted barley.

Character: Bready malt with rye spice.

Strength: Bottled in bond, 100 proof.

Specifications

Distillery: Ross & Squibb, Lawrenceburg, Indiana

Style: Straight rye whiskey, bottled in bond

Mash Bill: 51% rye, 49% malted barley

Age: 6 years

Proof / ABV: 100 proof (50% ABV)

Region: Indiana, USA

Size: 700ml

How to Enjoy It

Sip it neat or with a splash of water, or stir a Manhattan or Sazerac.
