The Silkie range is named for the mythical seal-folk of Irish and Scottish legend, and The Midnight Silkie, evoking the dark, mysterious Donegal coast at night, revives the historically smoky style of Donegal whiskey. It is a smoky blend of single malts finished in virgin oak and imperial stout casks.

The nose brings intense peat smoke, dark fruit, toasted oak, sea salt and vanilla. The palate is bold and smoky, with peated malt, dark chocolate, caramel, dried fruit and maritime brine, a peat character that rivals the great smoky Scotch whiskies while keeping an unmistakably Irish soul.

A bold Irish whiskey with an edge, it makes a memorable gift.

Peat smoke is unusual in Irish whiskey today, though historically many Irish distilleries, especially in the north-west, used peat to dry their malt.

Imperial stout casks add dark, roasty notes of chocolate and coffee, while virgin oak brings fresh vanilla and spice.

At 46% and non-chill filtered, the whiskey keeps its full texture, and a drop of water opens the sweetness behind the smoke.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Peat smoke, dark fruit, toasted oak, sea salt and vanilla.

Palate: Peated malt, dark chocolate, caramel, dried fruit and brine.

Style: Bold and smoky.

Specifications

Producer: Sliabh Liag Distillers

Style: Irish Whiskey, blend of single malts, peated

Cask / Finish: Finished in virgin oak and imperial stout casks

Proof / ABV: 92 proof (46% ABV), non-chill filtered

Region: County Donegal, Ireland

Size: 750ml, with tube

How to Enjoy It

Sip it neat or with a drop of water.
