It is a non-age-statement whisky bottled at 43% ABV.

Yamazaki, founded by Suntory in 1923 on the outskirts of Kyoto, is Japan's first malt whisky distillery, and its limited editions are among the most sought-after releases in Japanese whisky. The Story of the Distillery series celebrates the craft behind Yamazaki's whisky, and the 2024 edition draws on two of its most distinctive woods: rare Japanese Mizunara oak and Spanish oak sherry casks.

Its reddish amber hue points to its depth. On the nose come dried persimmon and clove, the palate brings orange marmalade and sweet red bean with a touch of spice, and the finish is long, spicy and gently smoky.

The bottle comes in a grey and white box illustrated with the distillery, making it a fine gift and a collectable for lovers of Japanese whisky.

It is a whisky to sip slowly and savour, revealing the interplay of Japanese and Spanish oak. Japanese whisky is often enjoyed with a little chilled water, a style called mizuwari, which gently opens the aromas without masking the spirit.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dried persimmon and clove.

Palate: Orange marmalade and sweet red bean with spice.

Finish: Long, spicy and gently smoky.

Specifications

Producer: Suntory, Yamazaki Distillery

Style: Japanese Single Malt Whisky

Expression / Batch: Story of the Distillery, 2024 Edition

Proof / ABV: 86 proof (43% ABV)

Cask / Finish: Mizunara and Spanish oak casks

Region: Yamazaki, Osaka, Japan

Size: 700ml

How to Enjoy It

Serve it neat, or with a splash of chilled water to open the persimmon and marmalade.
