unbendt-unblended-straight-rye-whiskey-bottled-in-bond-750ml
UNBENDT Unblended Straight Rye Whiskey Bottled in Bond 750ml

UNBENDT Straight Rye is a grain-to-glass, bottled-in-bond rye whiskey from BENDT Distilling Co. in Lewisville, Texas, made from local North Texas grain and bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV).

BENDT makes whiskey from start to finish, using local North Texas grain, and the UNBENDT series takes unblended whiskey from the distillery's craft-distilled, straight, grain-to-glass range. The grain bill is as distinctive as the distillery: Elbon rye, triticale hybrid grain, Maris Otter malted barley and Naked Streaker oats, a combination that brings complexity well beyond a standard rye mash.

This release was slow-aged in the Texas heat for more than five and a half years, in 53-gallon standard bourbon barrels with a 3.5 char. As a bottled-in-bond whiskey, it is the product of one distilling season, aged at least four years in a bonded warehouse and bottled at exactly 100 proof. The result is peppery and warm, unblended and unmistakably Texan.

Its tall bottle with the green bonded label makes a fine gift for rye fans who like to explore craft whiskey.

American rye whiskey is made from a mash of at least 51% rye and aged in new charred oak, giving it a spicier, drier character than bourbon, with notes of pepper, herbs and baking spice.

Tasting Notes

Character: Peppery and warm.

Grains: Elbon rye, triticale, Maris Otter barley, oats.

Proof: Bonded 100.

Specifications

Producer: BENDT Distilling Co., Lewisville, Texas

Style: Straight rye whiskey, bottled in bond

Grain Bill: Elbon rye, triticale, Maris Otter malted barley, Naked Streaker oats

Age: 5.5+ years

Barrel: 53-gallon, 3.5 char

Proof / ABV: 100 proof (50% ABV)

Region: Texas, USA

Size: 750ml

How to Enjoy It

Sip it neat or with a splash of water, or stir it into a Manhattan or Sazerac.
