Amrut Peated is an Indian single malt whisky made from barley dried over peat fire, distilled in small batches and matured in oak in the tropical climate of Bangalore, bottled at 46% ABV.
The distillery's name, Amrut, comes from Indian mythology and means nectar of life in Sanskrit, after the divine liquid that rose from the ocean when gods and demons churned it. Amrut Peated is made from selected Indian barley grown at the foot of the Himalayas; after harvest the grain is carefully dried over peat, then mashed and distilled in small batches to preserve its natural aroma, and matured at about 3,000 feet above sea level in Bangalore, the garden city of India.
In Bangalore's warm climate the whisky draws flavour from the oak far faster than in Scotland, so it reaches maturity in fewer years, with the peat smoke woven through.
A pioneering Indian peated malt in its tube, it makes a distinctive gift.
Enjoy it neat or with a drop of water.
Peat is partly decomposed vegetation burned to dry malted barley; its smoke soaks into the grain and carries through into the whisky as earthy, smoky notes.
Amrut was the first Indian single malt to be released in Europe, and it helped put Indian whisky on the world map.
Bottled at 46% ABV, it keeps more texture and flavour than a standard 40% whisky.
Bangalore's altitude tempers the tropical heat, giving warm days and cooler nights that keep the spirit moving in and out of the wood.
