Avuá Copan is a limited-edition Brazilian cachaça aged for up to two years in barrels of native tapinhoã wood and then finished for nine months in a Hardy Cognac cask, bottled at 40% ABV. Only 600 bottles were made.
Avuá is known for exploring Brazil's native woods, aging its cachaça in timbers such as amburana, bálsamo and tapinhoã that give flavours found nowhere else in the spirits world. Copan pairs the tropical character of tapinhoã with the polish of a French Cognac cask.
The tapinhoã brings toasted coconut and pine tree notes, while the Cognac cask finish adds polish.
The sculpted bottle with its black wrap makes it a rare gift for rum and cachaça collectors.
Sip it neat or use it in a premium Caipirinha.
Cachaça is Brazil's national spirit, distilled from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses, which gives it a bright, grassy and fruity base. Where most aged spirits around the world rest in oak, Brazil has a long tradition of ageing cachaça in native woods, each of which imparts its own colour, aroma and texture.
Finishing in a Cognac cask is unusual for cachaça and brings a French brandy influence to a distinctly Brazilian spirit. The result is a sipping cachaça for those who enjoy aged rum, Cognac or whisky and want to explore something new.
Its limited outturn makes Copan a collector's release within Avuá's range, and it is best appreciated neat or over a single large cube of ice so the interplay of native wood and Cognac cask can be enjoyed in full.
