Bluecoat American Dry Gin is the flagship of Philadelphia Distilling, a small-batch gin made with a proprietary blend of 100% certified organic botanicals and bottled at 94 proof (47% ABV).
Bluecoat is distilled in the birthplace of America, Philadelphia, in small batches crafted to appeal to the American palate, and it pioneered what is now known as the American Dry style of gin. The name honors the Bluecoat soldiers, the free-thinking revolutionaries who boldly fought for independence.
Philadelphia Distilling opened in 2005 as the first craft distillery in Pennsylvania since Prohibition, and Bluecoat has been its flagship from day one. Two decades later the distillery also makes Bluecoat Barrel Finished Gin and Bluecoat Elderflower Gin, along with an absinthe, an amaro and vodkas, but this original American Dry remains the spirit that put it on the map.
The botanical blend is highlighted by American citrus peels and a softer, rounder juniper berry, along with angelica and coriander. That combination makes it distinctly different from the juniper-heavy London dry gins that long dominated the market. The gin is distilled in hand-hammered copper pot stills.
The nose leads with refreshingly sweet aromatics, giving way to soft, earthy juniper notes. The body is intensely smooth, with a complex depth of flavors that reveal themselves as they move across the palate, citrus-forward and bright. The finish is exceptionally long.
At 47% ABV it has the strength to stand up in any cocktail, while its softer juniper and citrus lead make it an inviting gin for drinkers who find London dry too piney. A benchmark American gin for the home bar.
