Bushwood Front 9 7 Year is a single barrel straight Kentucky bourbon, the sophomore release in Bushwood's Front 9 vertical, aged seven years and bottled at 95 proof (47.5% ABV).
Nesting in the middle of bourbon's sweet spot of six to eight years, it has the mouthfeel and taste of a higher-proof, uncut bourbon at a more approachable strength, perfect for your stable of daily drinkers. The mash bill is 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley.
It is deep mahogany, with a sweet maple nose and subtle vanilla and caramel. Toffee, butterscotch, orange zest, smoky oak, spice, subtle root beer and stewed cherries are the call-outs. The palate is silky and viscous, with roasted almonds and candied citrus peel, cinnamon and caramel leading to crushed toffee and a subtle mint finish, medium to long, with peppery rye spice on the side palate.
A golf-themed single barrel bourbon, it makes a fun gift for golfers and bourbon lovers.
Sip it neat or over a large ice cube. Savour the moment.
Bourbon must be made in the United States from a mash of at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak containers, and straight bourbon must be aged at least two years. Those rules give bourbon its characteristic sweetness, with caramel and vanilla drawn from the charred barrels.
