Craigellachie 17 Year Old is a Speyside single malt with a robust, old-fashioned style, bottled at 46% ABV. It was matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, after which half was finished in first-fill sherry casks and half in first-fill bourbon casks.
Craigellachie, founded in 1891 in the village of the same name, still condenses its spirit in traditional worm tubs, the only Dewar's distillery to do so. The worm tubs produce a heavier, meatier spirit, which gives Craigellachie its unapologetic, muscular character.
Smooth and mellow, the aroma opens with vanilla and rich, silky notes of exotic fruits with a hint of smoky liquorice. The palate is smooth and sweet, with honey, and the finish is smoky and lingering. It won Double Gold at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Presented in a silver tube with the distillery's distinctive old-style label, it is a fine gift for lovers of characterful Scotch.
Add a drop of water to open the fruit and smoke.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
