Deau VS is a young, fresh cognac from Distillerie des Moisans in Sireuil, in the Charente, made from eaux-de-vie distilled in traditional Charentais stills and aged slowly in new French oak. It is bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV) in a 700ml bottle.
Distillerie des Moisans was founded by Roland Bru in 1960 and has been owned by the Bru Legaret family for three generations. Its cathedral-like still house holds twelve Charentais stills that run continuously from October through March, and double distillation lets the cellar masters keep only the aromatic hearts of each eau-de-vie. The Deau range is a tribute to Louis Deau, born in 1665 in the Cognac region.
The VS shows intense, aromatic freshness, with notes of birch, vine flower, peach and citrus. The attack is soft and fresh, with an elegant woodiness that moves toward orange zest, and sweet honey and soft vanilla fill out the palate before a supple, fresh and intense finish.
Its modern, square-shouldered bottle makes it a stylish gift, and it is particularly enjoyable as a long drink.
Cognac must be made from white grapes grown in the Cognac region of France, double distilled in copper pot stills and aged in French oak, with age categories such as VSOP and XO describing the minimum age of the youngest brandy in the blend.
