Ha'Penny Four Cask is a blended Irish whiskey from the Pearse Lyons Distillery in Dublin, created from four different cask types and two styles of whiskey, non-chill filtered and bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV).
Ha'Penny is named after the Ha'penny Bridge across the River Liffey in Dublin, the city that inspired it. The whiskey is made by the Pearse Lyons Distillery on James's Street in Dublin 8, in the heart of the city.
Four Cask is a combination of port pipe malt, bourbon barrel malt, sherry butt grain and double-charred barrel grain. Single malts and grain whiskies between four and ten years old come together: one malt matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, the other finished in port wine pipes, with the grains matured in sherry casks and double-charred barrels. The combination gives a deliciously versatile, rich and spicy whiskey, presented at natural color and without chill filtration.
The nose is rich and aromatic, with almonds, oak and a nutty sweetness, then fresh and fruity notes of tropical fruit, berries, vanilla, fruit cake and cherry. The palate brings pepper, dried apricot, marzipan and praline, and the finish lingers with vanilla, crème caramel, orange citrus and oak spice.
Mellow and approachable, it will appeal to a wide variety of palates. Sip it neat or over ice, or let it shine in an Irish Coffee or a whiskey highball.
