Ha'penny Rhubarb is a refreshing, distinctively pink small-batch pot-distilled gin from Pearse Lyons Distillery in Dublin, featuring the finest rhubarb alongside thirteen expertly selected botanicals and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
The gin takes a natural approach, with no artificial coloring or flavoring. The distillery takes its standard Ha'penny Gin off the pot still and brings it down to its 40% bottling strength with the juice of freshly pressed rhubarb rather than water, which gives the gin both its flavor and its natural pink color.
The range is named after Dublin's iconic Ha'penny Bridge, and it features geranium, dandelion, lavender and blackberry, all botanicals that would have been growing in the nearby Phoenix Park in Victorian times, when the bridge was built. The full list: rhubarb, juniper berries, blackberries, dandelion flowers, lavender, geranium, orange peel, lemon peel, cracked black pepper, anise, angelica root, liquorice bark, coriander and cassia.
A fresh rhubarb bouquet carries discernible juniper and citrus, followed by subtle botanical spice. The palate opens with fresh rhubarb and a bright botanical mix, rounding into a classic, resinous, juniper-forward gin, and the finish is silky, with lingering crisp, fresh rhubarb, long and moreish. It is a well-rounded Irish gin, as enjoyable on the rocks as it is in a long drink.
