Kilchoman Machir Bay is the flagship single malt from Kilchoman, the farm distillery on the west coast of Islay, matured in ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and with no added colouring.
Farm-distilled on Islay since 2005, Kilchoman is one of the few Scotch distilleries that grows its own barley, malts it on site and controls production from grain to bottle. Machir Bay is named after the beach next to the distillery, and the malt is partly floor-malted with Islay peat, double distilled in copper pot stills and matured mostly in ex-bourbon barrels with a portion in Oloroso sherry casks.
Expect citrus zest, juicy peaches, toasted vanilla, coastal peat smoke and honeyed sweetness, with lively tropical fruit, sultanas and malted honey on the palate, layered with butterscotch, cracked black pepper and sea salt.
Young, vibrant and intensely peated, and presented in its box, it makes a fine gift for Islay lovers.
Enjoy it neat or with a drop of water.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
Islay, off Scotland's west coast, is famous for its smoky, peated single malts.
