Kilchoman Sanaig Cask Strength 2024 Edition is a limited, undiluted release of one of the distillery's most popular core expressions, a peated Islay single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 57.8% ABV.
Kilchoman, Islay's farm distillery, established in 2005, distils, matures and bottles on the island. Sanaig, named after an inlet on Islay's rugged Atlantic coast, is a vatting of whisky matured in bourbon barrels and a high proportion of Oloroso sherry casks, and this Cask Strength edition keeps the same composition, bottled without dilution.
It brings toffee sweetness, dark fruits and red berries on the nose, with dried fruit, dark chocolate and rich peat smoke from the sherry-led maturation, amplified at full strength.
A limited cask-strength Islay malt, it makes a fine gift for peat and sherry lovers.

Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
Kilchoman grows a portion of its own barley at Rockside Farm on the west of Islay and malts it in its own floor maltings, which makes it one of the few distilleries in Scotland able to carry out the whole process, barley to bottle, on one site.
Islay single malts are known for the smoke of peat, the partly decomposed vegetation burned to dry malted barley; that smoke carries through distillation into the whisky as earthy, maritime and medicinal notes.
Oloroso sherry casks, which once held a rich, dry style of Spanish sherry, bring dried fruit, nuts and spice to the spirit, while bourbon barrels contribute vanilla and honey.
