Tepozán Extra Añejo is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila aged well beyond the three-year minimum for an extra añejo in American oak barrels, bottled at 40% ABV.
Tepozán is known for its authentic, additive-free style and its Kentucky white oak bourbon barrels, and its añejo has won medals in US spirits competitions. The extra añejo takes that approach further, giving the agave years to develop depth in the wood.
The nose brings vanilla, caramel, cooked agave, dried fruit and toasted oak. On the palate come agave sweetness, warm spice and oak, leading to a long, warming finish.

Extra añejo is the most mature category of tequila, created in 2006 for tequilas aged more than three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres. The long rest softens the agave's natural pepper and brings out caramel, vanilla and dried fruit, which is why extra añejos are usually enjoyed neat, like a fine cognac or whisky.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
