Weller is the label that made wheated bourbon famous, and Kentucky's Buffalo Trace Distillery has built it into one of the most sought-after names in American whiskey. Millennium takes the brand further than any previous release, drawing on reserves laid down around the turn of the century. Buffalo Trace has not disclosed the number of barrels or the size of the release, which has only added to the collector interest.
The whiskey is a blend of wheated bourbon, wheat whiskey and wheated whiskey drawn from four distillation years: 3% from 2000, 50% from 2003, 40% from 2005 and 7% from 2006. It is bottled at 99 proof, a nod to the turn of the last century, and the display case carries 99 starbursts as a reference to that proof. The crystal decanter is handmade, and the case lights up to show it off.
