Blanton's debuted in 1984 under Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee, and it is named after Colonel Albert B. Blanton, who ran what is now Buffalo Trace Distillery. It was the first single barrel bourbon marketed to the public. Every barrel comes from Warehouse H, which the house describes as the best place to age bourbon, with the bottles filled from center-cut barrels.
Blanton's is made from Buffalo Trace's Mash-bill No. 2, which has a higher rye content than the distillery's other recipe. That higher-rye build brings more fruit and spice than wheated bourbons. Each bottle carries its own barrel number, dump date and warehouse details on the label, and this bottle is 93 proof (46.5% ABV).
