Don Julio 1942 met global DJ and designer Peggy Gou for the brand's first worldwide collaboration: a limited-edition bottle renamed Don Julio 194구. The 구, pronounced 'Gou', replaces the final 2 of one of tequila's most famous names, and the result is among the most collectible 1942 bottles of recent years.
Diageo announced the partnership in March 2025, and the bottle was released in markets including the United States, Mexico, the UK, Japan and South Korea. Peggy Gou reimagined the tall 1942 bottle in her signature style, and it arrives in its own limited-edition gift box. Quantities were not disclosed, and once sold through it will not be produced again.
The name 1942 honors the year Don Julio González, then just 17, set up his first distillery, La Primavera, in the Jalisco Highlands. He became known for an obsession with quality, from spacing agave plants farther apart to harvesting them fully mature and slow-roasting the hearts for three days. Don Julio 1942 was first released in 2002 to mark the brand's 60th anniversary. It is distilled in a small pot still, known as No. 6, that fills only three barrels per run, then aged around two and a half years, up to 32 months, in American white oak barrels that previously held bourbon. Inside this bottle is that same añejo, at 80 proof.
