Amarula is a South African cream liqueur made from the fruit of the African marula tree, bottled at 17% ABV.
The marula tree grows only in the warm, frost-free regions of sub-equatorial Africa and bears fruit once a year. Amarula was first sold as a liqueur in September 1989.
The fruit is fermented and distilled, aged for two years in French oak, then blended with cream and sugar.
