Asombroso Especial de Rouge is an extra añejo tequila rested for 10 years in a French oak barrel that previously held Grand Marnier, the celebrated cognac-based orange liqueur. Made from 100% highland blue Weber agave and bottled at 40% ABV, it is one of the most distinctive aged tequilas in the Asombroso range.
Asombroso begins with its award-winning El Platino blanco, a delicate and sweet tequila, then ages it in fine French oak barrels once used for one of France's most famous cognac liqueurs. A full decade in the barrel, far beyond the three years required for an extra añejo, gives the tequila a deep amber colour and a richness that many drinkers compare to fine cognac, while the agave still shines through.
On the nose come buttercream, toffee, caramel and vanilla. The palate is smooth, with oak and cacao at its centre, followed by a gentle note of orange blossom and roasted nuts, a nod to the Grand Marnier that once filled the barrel.
The presentation is unmistakable. The bright red bottle, shaped like a gourd, carries the Asombroso Ultrafino name and a gold medallion, with "Especial de Rouge" written in gold script across its base, and it is presented in a dark blue gift box with a gold-framed window.
