Compass Box Delos is a limited edition blended Scotch from The Extinct Blends Quartet that reimagines Asyla, one of Compass Box's own retired blends, using older and rarer components. It is bottled at 49% ABV, non-chill filtered and with natural colour, and only 5,520 bottles were released.
Asyla was created in 2001 and was a cornerstone of the Compass Box range until its retirement in 2018. For Delos, whisky maker James Saxon set out to capture Asyla's vibrancy and sweetness with more mature whiskies, using American oak-matured malts from Glen Elgin, Imperial and Miltonduff together with Cameronbridge grain. Delos takes its name from the Greek island of ancient temples and mosaics, a fitting image for a classical sanctuary of a whisky.
Sweet succulence breaks on the nose in soft waves of ripe pear, pineapple, orange oil and vanilla cream. A medley of fruit tarts and white chocolate soothes the palate, while the maturity of the component whiskies gradually builds to reveal guava, heather honey and chai spices.
The label shows a classical figure in soft, painted colours, and the bottle comes in a kraft presentation box. It is a beautiful addition to an Extinct Blends collection and an elegant gift.
