Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond 10 Year Old is the Spring 2023 edition of Heaven Hill's celebrated semi-annual decanter series, a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 100 proof under the Bottled-in-Bond Act. Made from corn, wheat and malted barley, it was distilled in 2013 and aged for ten years.
Old Fitzgerald is one of the great names of wheated bourbon, and Heaven Hill releases it twice a year, in spring and fall, each time at a different age. Using wheat in place of rye as the secondary grain gives a softer, sweeter bourbon, and at ten years the whiskey has gained depth without losing that gentle character. As a Bottled-in-Bond whiskey, it is the product of one distillation season at one distillery, aged at least four years in a bonded warehouse and bottled at exactly 100 proof.
The whiskey pours a bright, burnished copper. On the nose come brown sugar, molasses, light baking spice and orange peel, and the palate is soft, with butterscotch, subtle oak and cloves. The finish is long and warm, with gentle tannins, a peppery tingle and a little barrel char. Drinkhacker rated it 9.5 out of 10, calling it a classic example of a wheated bourbon.
Presented in Old Fitzgerald's distinctive faceted decanter with its green and red label and tax-strip style seal, it is a collectible bottle and a fine gift for any bourbon lover.
