San Matías 135 Anniversary Blend is a limited tequila from Casa San Matías, created to celebrate 135 years of tequila making. It is a blend of añejo and extra añejo tequilas made from 100% agave in the Highlands of Jalisco and bottled at 40% ABV.
Casa San Matías is led by Carmen Villarreal, one of the most respected figures in tequila, and the house has been making tequila in Jalisco for 135 years. For its 135th anniversary it blended mature añejo with longer-aged extra añejo, creating a tequila with the depth of long ageing and the brightness of Highland agave.
On the nose, caramel, chocolate, maple and vanilla lead, with toasted nuts, dried plum, coffee and a hint of violet underneath. The palate is mildly sweet with a soft, oily texture, bringing baking spices, marzipan, nutmeg and vanilla bean, and the finish is smooth and dry. The tequila won Double Gold with 92 points at the TAG Spirits Awards.
The tall, elegant decanter is set with 135 European crystals applied by hand and bears a gold anniversary medallion, and it arrives in a black presentation box with gold geometric detailing. It is a striking gift and a fine piece for a tequila collection.
