Ron Carúpano XO Antiguas Reservas is an ultra-premium Venezuelan rum blended from the family's antique reserves, with rums aged between 18 and 35 years. It is bottled at 40% ABV in a numbered crystal decanter, with only about 2,000 decanters released each year.
Carúpano matures its rums for long years in sealed white American oak barrels without replacing the annual angel's share, drawing on ancient private family reserves. The result is a rum of great concentration and depth, mahogany in colour with orange glints. Because the angel's share is never topped up, the volume in each barrel falls year after year, concentrating the rum and making these long-aged reserves especially precious.
On the nose come caramel, brioche, toffee, walnuts and almonds, with red flowers, cigar box, tobacco, Tonka bean, fermented cocoa and a smoky touch. The palate is rich and balanced, with black fruit, candied raisins, coconut, coffee and tobacco, leading into a lasting finish.
The heavy, squared crystal decanter with its cut-glass stopper and the Carúpano crest makes this rum a centrepiece for any bar, and it is a superb gift for a rum or cognac lover.
