Blue Run Emerald Single Barrel Rye is a barrel-proof Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Blue Run Spirits, the second release in its Emerald Rye series and the brand's first single barrel rye. This bottle is 116.7 proof, drawn straight from one barrel with no water added.
The rye was contract distilled under the guidance of Blue Run's liquid advisor Jim Rutledge, the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame distiller, at Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort. Barrels were selected to echo the flavours of the original Emerald Rye, and each was bottled at its own natural strength, so every barrel has its own character.
The Emerald single barrels share a rich, spicy profile. Barrel notes from the release include baking spices dancing around earthy saddle leather and caramelised wood, with dark chocolate and warm coffee and a toffee finish; honey, cocktail cherry and smoked corn with creamy oak; brown-sugared bacon, golden raisin and honeycomb with campfire smoke and cocoa; and smoky wood embers with caramel, toffee and butterscotch.
The bottle features Blue Run's signature butterfly and emerald seal on a tall, elegant decanter. It is a fine gift for a rye lover and a collectable piece from one of Kentucky's most stylish young brands.
