La Grande Dame is Veuve Clicquot's prestige cuvée, named in tribute to Madame Clicquot herself, and the Rosé is its rarest expression. The 2015 vintage is a Pinot Noir-driven Champagne of real depth, dressed in a vivid label and gift box by Italian artist and ceramicist Paola Paronetto.
Veuve Clicquot describes 2015 as a sunny vintage that built both tension and elegance, and this is only the tenth edition of La Grande Dame Rosé. The house drew on its most prized grand cru parcels: Pinot Noir from villages including Aÿ, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzy and Verzenay, with Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The color comes from red wine made at the Clos Colin, a single plot of Pinot Noir in Bouzy bought by Philippe Clicquot in 1741.
The blend is about 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay, an unusually Pinot-heavy balance for a prestige Champagne, with around 13% red wine added. It spent roughly eight years on its lees in the house's chalk cellars before release and is finished as a Brut with a dosage of about 6 grams per liter. It is 12.5% alcohol.
