10th Street Port Cask is a limited-edition, lightly peated American single malt aged in first-fill bourbon barrels and then finished in California port casks, bottled at cask strength (58.2% ABV).
The port finish infuses rich colour and complex sweet flavours into the lightly peated whisky, layering red fruit and gentle smoke.
The nose brings strawberry hard candy, wisps of smoke over the firepit, faded potpourri, a touch of salt and cherry. The palate offers mixed berry preserves, sweet red liquorice, a savoury briny note, dry grass, sage brown butter and raw honeycomb, and the finish is viscous and creamy, with baked fruit cake, camphor, white pepper and lingering smoke.
A limited peated malt with a port twist, it makes a distinctive gift.
Sip it neat, then add a few drops of water.
American whiskey covers a wide range of styles, from bourbon and rye to single malts and light whiskeys, and independent blenders and small producers have made it one of the most exciting categories in spirits.
American single malt is made from 100% malted barley at a single distillery in the United States, distilled in pot stills and matured in oak.
Peat is partly decomposed vegetation burned to dry malted barley; lightly peated malt gives a gentle wisp of smoke rather than the heavy smoke of Islay whisky.
Port casks once held fortified red wine, and they pass on red-fruit sweetness, plum and a rosy hue to the whisky they finish.
Bottled at cask strength, it keeps a full, viscous texture; a few drops of water open up the fruit and smoke.
