291 Colorado Rye Small Batch is a copper pot still rye whiskey from Distillery 291 in Colorado Springs, finished with toasted aspen staves and bottled at 101.7 proof (50.8% ABV).
Picture the Wild West: leather, dirt roads, cowboys, mountains, and most of all whiskey. The mash bill, similar to founder Michael Myers' all-time favourite rye whiskeys, is made with malted rye, sour mashed and distilled grain to glass in a copper pot still, then aged in deep-charred American white oak barrels.
Finishing on toasted Colorado aspen staves takes the caramel notes towards maple and gives the whiskey a distinct Colorado flavour, reminiscent of a time long passed. Myers, a former fashion photographer, named the distillery for Alfred Stieglitz's legendary gallery at 291 Fifth Avenue in New York.
291 Small Batch Rye was named World's Best Rye Whiskey at the 2018 World Whiskies Awards, won Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and an American Whiskey Master award, a fine gift for rye lovers.
