Aberfeldy 12 Year Old is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky from the Last Great Malts collection, presented here in a gold bar gift tin and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Aberfeldy Distillery was founded by John Dewar & Sons in 1896 and opened its doors in 1898 on the eastern outskirts of Aberfeldy, on the southern bank of the upper Tay. It draws its water from the Pitilie Burn, which runs alongside the distillery and is rich in alluvial gold; you won't find any nuggets in the bottle, but the water is known to be exceptionally pure. Made from 100% malted barley, the 12 Year Old spends its dozen years in American oak, some ex-bourbon and some ex-sherry, and is the perfect entry point into the range. The distillery also partners with local beekeepers.
Fruity and creamy with Aberfeldy's signature honeyed character, it offers notes of honey, vanilla, toffee and malt with hints of citrus and spice, approachable and well rounded.
The gold bar tin makes it a show-stopping gift.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
Highland single malts are prized for their balance and approachability.
Serve it neat in a Glencairn glass.
