Aberfeldy 12 Year Old is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky known as the Golden Dram, distilled in copper pot stills, matured for 12 years in oak casks and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV).
Aberfeldy Distillery was founded by John Dewar & Sons in 1896 and opened its doors in 1898 on the southern bank of the upper Tay. Its water comes from the Pitilie Burn, which runs alongside the distillery and is famous for its deposits of alluvial gold. The 12 Year Old is matured in a combination of sherry, bourbon, refill and re-charred casks, and its age statement tells you exactly how long it has been waiting before your first sip. Aberfeldy is also a core malt in Dewar's blends.
A honeyed dram scented with spices and plump fruit, with heather honey and white fruit on the nose. Syrupy on the palate, with lots of vanilla and fudge alongside dried apricot and red apple, followed by a whisper of smoke on the finish.
