Acre Largo Barrel Aged Blanco is an additive-free highland tequila rested 59 days in a single barrel from Westward Whiskey, right up to the legal limit for a blanco, and bottled at 93.4 proof (46.7% ABV).
Acre Largo was born in the highlands of Mexico above the small town of Jesús María and is produced at Hacienda la Esperanza, a fifth-generation estate, using estate-grown agave. The brand was founded by brothers Seth and Zac Longaker, and every bottle is hand bottled, labeled and finished at the hacienda. This edition rested in a barrel from Westward, the Portland-based distillery known for American single malt.
The barrel influence is subtle, nothing heavy: the agave stays bright and clean, with fresh agave, vanilla, oak and subtle spice underneath, finishing smooth and elegantly layered. It is a blanco pushed as far as a blanco can go.
Its pale-gold color and hand-finished label make it a distinctive gift.
Blanco tequila is bottled unaged or rested for less than two months, so it shows the agave at its purest: bright, peppery and fresh. It is the classic choice for margaritas and palomas, and a good blanco is just as rewarding sipped neat.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
