This Alexander Murray & Co. Teaninich 12 Year Old is a rare, limited-edition single barrel Highland single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 104 proof (52% ABV), created in collaboration with Orange County Soccer Club.
It was released to commemorate the club's historic 2021 championship-winning season, in a partnership orchestrated by Alexander Murray's CEO, who is also a part-owner of the team. Alexander Murray & Co. is an independent bottler that selects casks from Scotland's distilleries.
Teaninich is a Highland distillery whose spirit mostly goes into blends, so single barrel releases are rare. This one is high-density and unctuous, combining powerful heat with a velvety, mouth-coating weight.
A collector's bottle for whisky lovers and soccer fans alike.
Sip it neat, then add a few drops of water.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
Independent bottlers buy individual casks from distilleries and bottle them under their own label, often at full cask strength and without colouring or chill filtration. Each single barrel is a snapshot of one cask, so once the bottles are gone, that exact whisky is gone too.
Highland single malts cover a wide range of styles, from light and floral to rich and spicy. Twelve years in the barrel and bottling at 104 proof give this Teaninich real weight and intensity, and a few drops of water will open up its aromas.
Commemorative bottlings like this one, tied to a single season and a single barrel, are produced in very small numbers and are prized by collectors on both sides of the Atlantic.
