Angostura 1824 is the ultra-premium rum from the House of Angostura in Trinidad, aged a minimum of 12 years in American oak bourbon barrels and bottled at 40% ABV.
It is named for 1824, the year the House of Angostura was founded. The distillery is world-famous for its bitters, but it is also one of the great rum producers of the Caribbean, and the 1824 is a blend of pot still and column still distillates made from molasses.
The long ageing in charred American oak bourbon barrels gives a rum of depth, complexity and elegance, with tropical fruit, vanilla, caramel and toasted oak.
A refined Trinidadian sipping rum, it makes a fine gift for rum connoisseurs.
Enjoy it neat or with a single ice cube.
Aged rum is one of the most diverse spirits in the world, shaped by the sugarcane, the still and the warm climates where it matures, which speed up the interaction between spirit and wood.
Aged rum develops in the tropical Caribbean climate faster than spirits matured in cooler regions, drawing deep colour and flavour from the oak.
Pot stills produce a heavier, more flavourful rum, while column stills give a lighter spirit, and blending the two balances richness and elegance.
Angostura Bitters, created by Dr. Johann Siegert, remain a staple of classic cocktails worldwide.
