Arbikie 1794 Highland Rye 2021 Release is a single grain Scotch whisky from the Arbikie Highland Estate, distilled from Scottish rye, wheat and malted barley and bottled at 48% ABV.
The 2021 crop brings together Arantes Scottish rye, Viscount Scottish wheat and Odyssey Scottish malted barley, all grown on the farm. Arbikie's 1794 recipe is built on winter rye, with spring malted barley and winter wheat, reviving a rye whisky tradition in Scotland.
As with its earlier limited editions, Arbikie combined its rye with new charred American oak, but for the 1794 edition the spirit was not finished in a further cask, leaving the lively new oak to do its work alone. It was the first time this combination had been created in Scotland, and the new charred oak complements the rye, wheat and barley, imparting rich colour and deep flavour.
The nose brings fresh cloves, pipe tobacco, caraway and leather. The palate offers black tea, caraway and fresh heather honey, a spicy, original dram that fires the imagination.
It makes a distinctive gift for whisky lovers curious about Scottish rye.
Scotch whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak casks, and any age statement on the label refers to the youngest whisky in the bottle.
