Atanasio Añejo is an additive-free, 100% blue Weber agave tequila from Familia Landeros, a family that has grown agave in El Medineño, Jalisco, for more than a century. It is bottled at 40% ABV, with each bottle hand-numbered by batch and signed by the master distiller.
The brand honours Tío Atanasio, born in 1897, who grew up in the agave fields and began distilling his own spirits in his twenties. In 2011 the family opened its own fabrica, bringing its distillation into commercial production, and its first label, El Tío Atanasio 103, was named for him; the number 103 still appears on the bottle's stopper.
The agave is cooked for more than 24 hours, fermented naturally and double distilled in pot stills, then aged for 13 months in medium-char, ex-bourbon American oak barrels.
The nose brings agave, vanilla, caramel, dried fruit and toasted oak. The palate is rich and expressive, with agave sweetness, butterscotch, warm spice and layered oak, and the finish is long and clean with lingering agave, vanilla and toasted wood.
Its artisanal label and leather-tied stopper make it a thoughtful gift for tequila lovers.
Añejo tequila is aged between one and three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres, long enough to add colour, sweetness and spice while keeping the character of the agave, which makes it a natural sipping tequila.
