Avión Reserva 44 is a luxury extra añejo tequila, the pinnacle of the Avión portfolio, aged 44 months in American oak, with the final month spent in specially selected petite barrels, and bottled at 40% ABV.
It is crafted from 100% blue Weber agave grown at high altitudes in Jalisco, slow-roasted in traditional brick ovens and double distilled. Each bottle is numbered and hand-signed, and in the final month the barrels are rotated to deepen the tequila's character. It is handcrafted in limited batches.
Dark and rich, it offers a complex infusion of ripe, luscious fruits, with roasted agave, marzipan, vanilla and a lightly spiced finish.
Presented in its gift box, it is a luxurious gift for tequila lovers.
Best savoured neat.
Extra añejo is the most mature category of tequila, created in 2006 for tequilas aged more than three years in oak barrels of no more than 600 litres. The long rest softens the agave's natural pepper and brings out caramel, vanilla and dried fruit, which is why extra añejos are usually enjoyed neat, like a fine cognac or whisky.
Tequila can only be made from blue Weber agave in five designated Mexican states, chiefly Jalisco, and the finest bottlings are made from 100% agave. Sipping tequila is best enjoyed from a narrow-rimmed glass that concentrates the aromas, at room temperature and without salt or lime, so the character of the agave and the barrel can come through.
