Balcones Texas Single Malt Rum Cask Finished is a cask-strength single malt from Waco, Texas, finished in casks that held Balcones' own Texas rum, bottled here at 124 proof (62% ABV).
Single malt has always been the drive and passion behind Balcones, but the distillery has also been inspired by other spirit traditions, including rum. After a few small batches of its Texas Rum, it refilled the same casks with select Texas Single Malt, marrying two favourites into a unique Texas whisky.
The nose brings caramelised sugar, cherry cola, banana bread, sassafras, pistachio, peanut brittle, apple skins and peach cobbler. The taste is big and full-bodied, with tropical fruit, molasses, sweet black tea and gingerbread, and the finish is dry and long, with prickly cinnamon, burnt sugar and heavy oak.
A bold Texas original, it makes a fine gift for adventurous whisky lovers.
