Banhez Maguey Mexicano is an artisanal joven mezcal made from maguey Mexicano (Agave rhodacantha) by Luis Pacheco in La Noria, Ejutla, Oaxaca, for the Banhez cooperative. It is bottled at 47% ABV.

The Banhez cooperative unites more than 35 families of farmers and mezcaleros around San Miguel Ejutla in Oaxaca's central valleys, sharing resources so that each can make mezcal the traditional way. The Pacheco family is well known in the region for its mezcal, and maguey Mexicano is a large, slow-growing agave rarely bottled on its own.

This is a bold, smoky mezcal, with charred wood, a toasty crust and a sour-sweet stone-fruit note, suited to those who love a heavily smoky style.

The simple label makes it a thoughtful gift for agave enthusiasts.

Sip it slowly from a copita.

Mezcal is made by roasting agave hearts, traditionally in earthen pits, then crushing, fermenting and distilling them, a process that gives the spirit its characteristic smoky depth. Each agave variety and each village brings its own character, which is why enthusiasts love exploring small-batch bottlings.

Mezcal and other agave spirits are traditionally sipped from a copita or a small clay cup, in small sips, often alongside orange slices dusted with sal de gusano. Many are made in tiny batches by individual families, so each bottle is a snapshot of a particular place, agave and season.
