Basil Hayden is one of the four original expressions of the Small Batch Bourbon Collection created by master distiller Booker Noe in 1992, made at the James B. Beam distillery in Clermont, Kentucky. The brand is known for a high-rye mash bill that produces a lighter, more approachable style, and is named for Meredith Basil Hayden Sr., the 18th-century Kentucky distiller who pioneered the high-rye approach.
Subtle Smoke pours a deep, rich amber with copper undertones. The aroma has a mellow smoke character with a hint of sweet vanilla. The flavour brings soft char with a light sweetness reminiscent of butterscotch and maple, and the finish is crisp yet delicate, with gentle smokiness and light toasted hickory wood.
