Bayab Orange & Marula is a smooth, citrus-forward African gin from South Africa, distilled with marula fruit, baobab, burnt orange peel, cinnamon, coriander and sea salt, bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV).
Most gins taste like juniper; Bayab tastes like the brightness of African citrus. It is a small-batch, naturally citrus-forward Pan-African gin distilled in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, with botanicals sourced from seven African countries. At its heart is the ancient African superfruit baobab, sourced from Ghana and Zambia, the botanical in every gin Bayab makes.
The Orange & Marula expression brings an African citrus-forward twist to the range. It is distilled with marula fruit picked from the elephant tree, along with baobab fruit, cinnamon, burnt orange peel, coriander and sea salt, for a unique citrus African gin that captures the essence of the continent's vibrant flavors. The wider Bayab range follows the same citrus-led idea, including a subtle, never-sweet rose expression with soft grapefruit and a warm, dry juniper finish.
Orange aromatics lead up front, and tart citrus is balanced by marula's ripe stone-fruit roundness, with warm cinnamon and a hint of salinity: a smooth orange gin with an African citrus vibe.
It is exceptional in a Negroni. Also try it with tonic and an orange wheel, in a Gin Sour, or with soda over plenty of ice. The burnt orange and marula also pair well with a dash of aromatic bitters in a gin Old Fashioned, and a pinch of the sea-salt character makes it a natural with seafood and grilled dishes.
